To install the plugin all you need is to go to Plugins >> Add new>> install and activate FG Joomla to WordPress plugin.
3) Import your Joomla website to WordPress:
After activation, go to Tools>> click on the “run importer” link below the Joomla FG importer tool.
This will launch Joomla importer and you need to add your Joomla website information ( website URL and database settings ) and you’ll be able to get your database information from Joomla’s website admin area.
All you need is to go to System>> Global Configuration page and hit on the server tab.
This page will have all information of your database except the password. If you have forgotten your password then just go to the configuration.php file that is located in the Joomla website’s folder, and you can reset your password.
Now enter your information in Joomla importer and then hit on Test the database connection button.
After clicking if it starts working then a message of “Connected Successfully” will appear on the screen. Fill out the Behaviour section save settings and hit on the Start /Resume Importer button to continue.
4) Modify Internal Links
Once done, you will see a message of IMPORT COMPLETED appears and a 100 % progress bar. Make sure to import Joomla content ( all pages, posts, and media files) from there to a new WordPress site. After importing content, hit on the Modify Internal Links button. Now you can visit your new WordPress site to see imported content and to verify that internal links are pointed to the right URLs.
Once all migration is done, you can deactivate the FG Joomla plugin from your WordPress site.
5) Point the domain name to your new WordPress site:
The last but not least step is to point the domain name to your new WordPress site. Gratefully this step is easy but will take up to 24 hours due to DNS generation. You can also change the domain name from the General settings as well.
Steps to do after migrating content from Joomla to WordPress
Once you have migrated the Joomla site to WordPress, you are able to build your new WordPress site by following the mentioned steps.
1. Set up Permalinks and Redirects.
Permalinks are actually the permanent URLs that direct users to the web pages. WordPress has a total of six permalink structures so choosing the right permalink structure is one of the most important steps for setting up the WordPress site.
All you need is to go to Settings >> Permalinks
WordPress uses the Plain structure including ID-based slug example.com/?p=123.
This will help us to differentiate our page from another one. So the best way is to use a post name permalink structure. You can either create a custom structure to display or can rely on the permalink structure generated by WordPress which is the most SEO friendly and is the short and simple URL.
Once you have chosen a permanent structure, hit on the Save Changes button.
2. Check your broken links
There are chances of having broken links while migrating the Joomla website to a WordPress site. In order to locate broken links we suggest you use the Broken Link Checker plugin. This plugin helps you to find and fix broken links simultaneously.

3. Install the Redirection plugin

Go to tools >> Redirection page, enter http://example.com/index.php/(.*) in the Source URL field and http://example.com/$1 in the Target URL field, Click on the Add Redirect button to save changes, as shown in the image below.
