Install a Theme using WordPress Admin Theme Search
Theme can be installed directly from the official WordPress theme directory. This method works with the majority of web hosts, but if for some reason it fails you will be prompted to enter your web server’s FTP information to complete the process.
By far the easiest way to install a WordPress theme is to do it from the WordPress admin dashboard. When doing this you can either use the search function, or upload directory from your hard drive if you acquired the theme from other sources.
Here’s a step by step tutorial of how to use the search feature to install WordPress theme.
Step 1: Getting to the Theme finder
Go into your WordPress dashboard and look to the left side of the screen. You will see a tab that says “Appearance.” Click this and it will create a drop-down box beneath it with more options. Click “Themes.” On the new page look up top and click the tab that says “Install Themes.”
Step 2: Searching for a Theme
You can now search for a theme by using the search box. Also, looking down below, you’ll see several options that allow you to refine your search by color, subject, dimensions, and more.
Once you have an idea of what you want, type your keyword in search box. For example, if you want a magazine-style theme, type in “magazine,” then click the “search” button.
Or, you can use the Feature Filter button to filter the theme results based on specific features.
On the new page, you can see a variety of themes that match your search criteria. All of them should be free and can be installed by simply clicking the “Install Now” button beneath them. You can also preview them by clicking the “Preview Button.”
When the theme is install, you need to activate the theme. Click the Activate button.
Install a Theme by using the Upload Method from WordPress Admin
Zipped Theme files can be installed directly from the theme installer. Click the upload button and select the theme zip you would like to install. WordPress automatically uploads the themes to your server. Unzips the theme, and places the theme in your theme directory.
Open the WordPress admin panel, and go to the Appearance>Themes menu.
At the top you can see the Add New button, Just simply click on the Add New button.
Follow step one from the preceding method, But this time click on the Upload button to add the subject bundle record out of your computer.
Next, click on the Choose File button, to upload the theme package file from your computer.
Once the theme is automatically installed after upload. You need to activate the theme. Go to Appearance > Themes on admin sidebar. And then click the Activate button.
Installing a WordPress Theme using FTP
The final method for installing a theme is using FTP (File Transfer Protocol). Upload all the themes to the file directory to the wp-content/themes directory on your web server.
Now the WordPress allows you to upload themes from your hard drive using the dashboard this method is somewhat out of date. However, if you want to do it this way, or if the built-in WordPress upload function is not working for some reason, using FTP is always an option.
